Alta Vista, placed within Estancia Anita, has over 165.000 acres of endless steppes, plateaus, volcanic extrusions, forests, lakes and rivers to offer. Alta Vista guests have full access to the unique experience of witnessing the daily chores carried out on this real southernmost Patogonian estancia, as well as fascinating horseback rides.
MAIN HORSEBACK RIDES
Chorrillo Malo fields (2 hours)
An easy ride along flat lands near the Inn along Chorrillo Malo.
Chorrillo Malo outlook (3-4 hours)
The most popular excursion, along easy and flat lands where you reach a lagoon populated by flamingos, swans, and upland Geese. Later you arrive at an outlook from where you can see the Argentino Lake, the Andres and its glaciers and the far off steppes. By the Chorrillo Malo, you can enjoy a typical steak lunch or return to the Hosteria going around the lagoon.
Estancia Anita (1 hour)
Only 3 km from the Inn, along the road, the visit of the estancia is a must for all our guests. You can visit the shearing barn, the blacksmith shop, the vegetable garden, as well as the farmhouse and rural workers dining room. The Horse Trail along the road is used to reach the estancia.
Estancia Anita through high fields (4 – 5 hours)
You arrive at the estancia riding through the high fields. After visiting the barns and facilities you return along the prairies spotted by lagoons, with the Andes Cordillera as a background and among herds of thousands of sheep
Volcano pass (6 – 8 hours)
Journey to the base of Mount Fraile, an extinguished ancient volcano. This is a summer grazing field. Crossing the stream, you go through the forest up to 1200 metres above sea level, from where there are panoramic vistas of the Torres del Paine. You return down the hills that surround the estancia and the Alta Vista stream.
Zamora Pass: Argentine – Chilean border (8-10 hours)
This is the longest and most spectacular horse ride, due to the variety of scenery. You get as far as the Chilean border riding through virgin lenga woods and highlands. Up the valley of Rico river and after crossing it, you go up thruough the woods along an old sheep trail till you get to the upper courses of the river. This is the traditional livestock summer grazing spot of the region, just in the heart of the Sierras Baguales.

Alta Vista is located on the southern basin of Argentino Lake and a few kilometres from the best fishing sites of the zone: Lake Roca, Southern Arm and Rico Arm. By vehicle, it takes an hour to arrive at Santa Cruz River and 2-3 hours to reach Rio Gallegos river and Vizcacha River. Our guests have all the necessary gear for fishing: both spinning and fly- casting.
Lake Roca Straight
There is a special spot 20 minutes from the Hosteria, usually chosen by those searching for a quiet, nearby place with good chances of catch. Species: Rainbow trout and Lake Trout. This is an optional service, not included in the all inclusive rate
Private fishing services
We also have more exclusive services on motor boats and in the company of specialized guides. This service includes: Land transport on 4 wheel drive vehicles, Gear : waders, boots , fishing rods, flies and a guide. Guests can request the service at the Hosteria.
Species: Rainbow trout, Lake trout, Brown Resident trout (Vizcacha River), and Brown migratory trout (Rio Gallegos).
Ibis or Bandurria nesting (Theristicus caudatus
Only 50 mt. from the Hosteria, these birds have decided to nest, on the cypresses´ treetops. They are migratory birds that arrive in October and leave their nests in the month of April .
Near the Hosteria
Several species are common in the proximities of the Inn: Ñacurutú, Cauquenes, Patagonian Wood Peckers, Patagonian Thrush, Striped bird, Red Breast, Patagonian Goldfinch.
Difference of elevation: 150 m . Duration: 1 hour walk -one way. In the midst of the steppe, this lagoon maintains an adequate water volume till the month of February which enables it to harbour different species of fowls: Flamingos, Black Neck Swans, Corn Ducks, and Overo Ducks.
Lagoons towards Frias mountain
Flat land. Duration: 20 minute walk – one way. Steppe Lagoons. Species: Flamingos, Black neck swans, Overo ducks, Corn Duck, Cauquenes etc. These lagoons are ideal for ice skating in winter.
Chorrillo Malo viewpoint
Difference of elevation: 200 mt. Duration 1 ½ hours – one way – Ideal for condor and eagle watching.
Our guests can use the bicycles all day long and thus discover the lands surrounding the Inn Ride around the Hosteria. The whole ride takes 15 minutes.You start out at one gateway, ride down the Route called “The Wool Route” and return through the other one.

You have to leave the bike to cross a wire fence to reach the place where the farm house used to be – only the foundations and trees that were planted to protect the house are still standing – The house was moved due to the floods provoked by the “closure ” of the Perito Moreno Glacier.
Estancia Chorrillo Malo
One way – 1 and a half hours. Along the horse trail or Route 15. You arrive at Estancia Chorrillo Malo where you can see some stone paintings.
Chorrillo Malo outlook
Round trip – 4 hours. Difference of elevation: 200 metres. Panoramic view of Chorrillo Malo, the estancia, Argentino Lake and the Andes. Fowl watching at an elevation lagoon. Condors and eagles are often seen.
MAIN SIGHTS AND VISITS
Excursions to the Los Glaciares National Park and the Perito Moreno glacier.
Los Glaciares National Park was declared ” Nature World’s Heritage” by UNESCO in 1989, due to it´s accessibility and landscape. Perito Moreno and Upsala Glaciers are the main attractions and the most visited during the tourist season.
Besides, the world famous Mounts Fitz Roy and Torre and all the area of El Chalten have wonderful trekking possibilities.
The following are the most important excursions:
Perito Moreno glacier (50km.)
Visit one of the seven wonders, the only moving glacier in the world.
Daily excursion by bus, bilingual guides – all day excursion (leaves 9 am – Returns 5 pm.). Views of the steppes and Andean-Patagonian forest. Visit to the Glacier front. Panoramic views of Perito Moreno Glacier from balconies. Services: Restrooms – Snack bar – Restaurant.
Excursions on private vehicles (with or without a guide). We suggest whole day excursion.
Hike on the Perito Moreno Glacier: whole day excursion. Departure from the dock, 7 km. from Perito Moreno glacier. Sail along the Rico Arm of Argentino Lake (20 minutes). Walk on the shore (20 minutes). On the opposite coast, specialized guides supply the passengers with crampons for the hike on the ice (1 ½ hours). On the glacier, you can see the inside of the glacier: gullies, caves, streams. Services: Restrooms. There is no restraurant nor snack bar.
Water-Safari naútico: 1 hour sailing in front of the glacier ice wall. From water level, you can appreciate the real height of the ice walls. This ride can be combined both with the bus or private car excursion.
Full day sailing visit to Upsale, Onelli, Spegazzini and other glaciers
Full day sailing trip on a catamaran. Departure from Punta Bandera (20 km). Navigation along North Arm of Argentino Lake, among gigantic icebergs. You disembark at Onelli Bay and after a short walk, you arrive a paradisiacal spot: Onelli Lake, where three small glaciers converge. Sailing is very close to Upsala Glacier, the largest glacier in the National Park.

On board Land Rover Defender vehicles you will be able to reach panoramic viewpoints and unique places both within Estancia Anita and its surroundings. These are whole day rides and sometimes, the only possible way to access these virgin vistas is in these vehicles and on horseback.
